| People's University Orientation Part 2/5
The Peoples University is an educational program designed to encourage the maximum use of public libraries in underprivileged, African American communities. The program consists of classroom discussions, held during traditional after school hours at various public libraries throughout the United States. The discussions are centered upon a publication, copyrighted in 1987, by a group of notable black scholars, entitled The Baseline Essays. By 1990, The Baseline Essays were thoroughly infused into the Portland Public School District Curriculum. After receiving the 1990 revision of the Baseline Essays, Look It Up Inc. (also known as LIU) staff began to examine the work in July of 2009. In August of 2009, The Peoples University was formed as a study group, aimed at either definitively proving or disproving information found within the Baseline Essays. The mission of LIU is to promote critical and analytical thinking in Black and impoverished communities. By analyzing this work, we believe that we serve our mission as well as multiple purposes related to the recovery of African American communities. We consider the Peoples University to be a community research project, which in itself will force participants to critically and analytically think. The actual content of the Baseline Essays will challenge many notions that African Americans have about their origins and their relation to present day society. Thus, reclaiming the self esteem and self respect needed to become ... |

| Researchers use brain scans to read people's memories Part 2
www.emfnews.org In the study, volunteers donned a virtual reality headset and were asked to make their way between four locations in a virtual building. Throughout the task, their brain activity was monitored using a technique called functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Eleanor Maguire and Demis Hassabis then used a computer program to look for patterns in the volunteers' brain activity as they stood on virtual rugs in the four different locations. They found that particular collections of brain cells encoded the person's location in the virtual world, and they were able to use this to predict where each volunteer was standing. "Remarkably, using this technology, we found we could accurately predict the position of an individual within this virtual environment, solely from the pattern of activity in their hippocampus," said Maguire. "We could predict what memories a person was recalling, in this case the memory for their location in space," she added. The study overturns neuroscientists' assumption that memories of our surroundings are encoded in the brain in an unpredictable way. The latest research suggests that this is not the case, and that the information is stored in our neurons in a very structured way that can be picked up by scanners. The scientists could not tell where somebody was from a single brain scan. Instead, they had to perform several scans of volunteers in each location. Only afterwards were they able to find differences in brain activity that ... |

| PEOPLES COURT Orthodontist wins case but who paid the bill?
Alternate titles for this film were "PEOPLES COURT Did orthodontist really tell the judge to SHUT UP?" and "PEOPLES COURT Suing orthodontist wrote Small Claims court book ?" This "Small Claims" Court hearing was filmed November 15, 2007 and aired on April 1, 2008. The television show was 12 minutes and 33 seconds. Since the maximum YouTube film is 10 minutes I edited the film on MS Movie Maker. My son made a DVD the date the show was aired. However, YouTube will accept only a limited number of formats and DVD is not one of them. I was advised to convert it to a form acceptable to YouTube and *.WMV is one of them. Consequently, I found at www.magicdvdripper.com/ a "ripper" program that would make that conversion and it worked without too much frustration for my efforts. You might be surprised to know that when the plaintiff wins as I did the money Judge Milian awards the winner is paid by the producers of the show. Indeed I received payment in less than two weeks from the time the show was filmed. The defendants in this case the Robinson family (Peia the patient, and Nicki the mom) were/ are genuinely fine people. Nevertheless, I work hard and do good work so when the family failed to respond to repeated requests for payment I brought the case to the real Small Claims Court in Brooklyn which is where I learned so much that eventually I had enough material to write the book. See drted.com . Researches from People's Court routinely comb the court files for interesting cases ... |
